Requirements

Who we accept, and why we're strict

We promise students a minimum grade of 80+. That promise is only worth something if the tutors behind it are genuinely strong — so we verify a completed degree and read transcripts before approving anyone. Here's exactly what we need, what merely helps, and what we don't care about at all.

The full picture in three columns

Most tutoring platforms are vague about this. We'd rather you know in thirty seconds whether it's worth your time.

!

Required

  • A completed bachelor's or master's degree — in any field
  • Transcripts, official or unofficial, covering all years
  • A CV or a link to a profile that shows your background
  • Genuine command of the subjects you choose to bid on
  • A reachable WhatsApp number — that's where onboarding happens
  • Reliable internet and the ability to hit deadlines
+

Helps a lot

  • The equivalent of a 3.5 / 4.0 GPA or better
  • A master's or PhD, especially for thesis and project work
  • Previous tutoring, teaching or marking experience
  • Strength in maths, statistics, computer science or physics — the highest-demand subjects
  • Comfort with tight deadlines, which get fewer competing bids
  • Working English, plus any second language

Not required

  • A teaching certificate or licence of any kind
  • A minimum age — there isn't one
  • Prior tutoring experience
  • Living in a particular country — everything is remote
  • A degree in education, or in the subject you tutor
  • Any fee, subscription or deposit to join

Thirty-second check

Would we accept you?

Four questions, answered honestly, and you'll know before spending five minutes on an application. Nothing here is recorded or sent anywhere.

1. What's your highest completed degree?
2. Can you provide transcripts?
3. Roughly what were your grades?
4. What are you hoping to do?

Answer all four to see where you stand.

Documents

What we ask for, and why

🎓

Transcripts

The one document we won't waive for tutoring. We read them to confirm your degree is real and to see how you performed in the subjects you want to bid on.

Official or unofficial both work — a clear photo or PDF of all years is fine. Grades in any system; we convert.

📄

CV or profile link

Context on your background and anything you've taught, marked or built. If you don't have a CV, a LinkedIn URL is enough.

Fresh graduates aren't at a disadvantage here — grades matter more than experience.

🔒

How we handle them

Your documents are used only to verify your background for this application. They are never shared with students or third parties.

Ask us to delete them at any point and we will.

For non-tutoring roles, the bar is different

If you're applying for freelance work in the wider OEG community — design, writing, development, marketing — we don't need transcripts and grades aren't part of the assessment.

What we look at instead is a portfolio or a record of relevant work. Same application form; pick the non-tutoring route at the top and the academic questions disappear.

Demand

Where the work actually is

We accept tutors across all of these. But demand isn't even, and it's worth knowing before you apply which side of the table you're on.

SubjectDemandWhat comes through
MathematicsVERY HIGH Calculus, linear algebra and discrete maths, all year round
StatisticsVERY HIGH Hypothesis testing, regression, R and SPSS work
Computer ScienceVERY HIGH Data structures, algorithms, Python and Java assignments
Physics & EngineeringHIGH Mechanics, thermodynamics, circuits, MATLAB
Economics & FinanceHIGH Econometrics, corporate finance, accounting problem sets
Chemistry & BiologySTEADY Organic chemistry and lab reports, peaking at exam time
English & EssaysSTEADY Essay feedback, structure and editing across disciplines
Business & ManagementSTEADY Case studies, marketing plans, strategy assignments
Thesis & ProjectsHIGH VALUE Fewer requests, far larger budgets, one agreed price
Law, Nursing, HumanitiesQUIETER Real demand but irregular — treat it as a second income

Demand shifts with the academic calendar and peaks sharply around midterms and finals.

Verification

How we check, step by step

STEP 01

You apply

Details, CV and transcripts. Five minutes.

~5 minutes
STEP 02

We read your documents

Degree confirmed, grades checked against the subjects you picked.

up to 1 week
STEP 03

We may ask a question

Usually over WhatsApp — a missing year, or which levels you're comfortable with.

if needed
STEP 04

Approved

Your tutor sign-in opens and matched requests appear the same day.

immediately

If we say no

We tell you why, and whether reapplying later would help. A "not yet" because your degree isn't finished is very different from a "no."

You can also switch to the non-tutoring route, where transcripts and grades aren't part of the decision.

If you don't hear back

We reply to every application within a week. If a week passes, message us on WhatsApp with your name — the most common cause is transcripts that never arrived.

Questions

About getting accepted

I'm in my final year. Can I apply?

For tutoring, we need a completed degree, so you'd apply once you've graduated and have final transcripts. It's worth applying the week you finish rather than waiting.

In the meantime the non-tutoring route is open to you — that one doesn't require a completed degree or transcripts, just a portfolio or relevant experience.

My GPA is below 3.5. Am I wasting my time?

No. 3.5 is a recommendation, not a cut-off. We look at your grades in the subjects you want to bid on — someone with a 3.2 overall and top marks in mathematics is a strong maths tutor. Apply and let us judge it.

Does my degree have to be in the subject I tutor?

No, and this catches people out. An engineering graduate can tutor mathematics and physics; an economics graduate can tutor statistics. What we check is that your transcripts show real strength in what you're claiming.

My transcripts aren't in English.

Send them as they are. If we can't read them we'll ask for a translation — it doesn't have to be certified.

Is there an age limit?

None at either end. The only real requirement is a completed degree, which sets its own floor.

Can I apply from any country?

Yes. All work is remote and students are international, so a spread of time zones is genuinely useful. You just need a payout method that works where you live — bank transfer, PayPal, Wise, Western Union, Revolut, Cash App, Venmo and plain money transfer are all supported.

Do I have to commit to a minimum number of hours?

No. There are no shifts, no minimum, and nothing is assigned to you. You bid on what you want, when you want. We ask about your availability in the application only so we can set realistic expectations.

Does it cost anything to apply or to join?

Nothing at any stage. No application fee, no subscription, no deposit, no charge to bid. We only take a service fee on work you win and complete.

Think you'd make the cut?

Five minutes, your CV and your transcripts. We answer every application within a week — and if it's a yes, you can start bidding the same day.
